A skilled facilitator, Jackie leads over 200 discussion forums each year, using film as a catalyst for raising consciousness & inspiring personal transformation. Jackie is a founding member of the International Association of Coaches and a life long scholar of Depth Psychology, Semiotics and Archetypal Symbolism. She is certified in Psycho/Spiritual Development by the New York Psychosynthesis Institute in Manhattan and has facilitated self empowerment for over 15 years. With roots in a blue-collar steel town near Pittsburgh, Jackie says, "I was socialized during a time when questioning the status quo was considered sacrilegious or unpatriotic. Since I could not accept this limited view of the world, I made a decision to empower myself by turning my life into an adventure of provocative questioning." Growing up in the 1950s in a multi-ethnic melting pot helped forge the woman who would champion consciousness raising by creating a new social genre that breaks down communication barriers between genders, races and cultures. Jackie moved to New York and raised three children before returning to college to study media communications at the State University of New York at Purchase. She received a combined degree in Social Sciences and Visual Communications in 1989. The following year she served on the University’s Marketing Advisory Board. Jackie continued her affiliation with SUNY Purchase, co-producing “Critical Issues,” the University’s first cable broadcast series. She later attended New York University and the New School for Social Research where she gained hands-on experience in network television production, documentary film production and marketing and distribution of independent films. Reel Power Salons evolved out of Jackie’s awareness that movies have become a dominant social influence; and that mature film audiences needed venues where they could engage in LIVE conversation and consciousness raising on issues and themes carried by films. ’ Jackie is a master at weaving film, story, drama and symbolism into an effective technique for raising consciousness and inspiring self empowerment. She is committed to bringing people together through discussion forums like her Reel Power Salons so that, as she says, “We can sharpen our critical awareness, look beyond the spoon-fed messages, begin to listen to one another and have fun in the process.” |
